I was born in Rustington, West Sussex, England (1971). I've three brothers and two supportive parents. In the 1990's I completed degrees at Leicester Polytechnic and Kingston University. From then on like many artists it was a matter of survival, trying to earn enough while finding time to work. I worked at Kingston College and Brunel University as a drawing lecturer; travelling around signwriting blackboards and decorating houses. Around 2000 I moved to France for 4 years, painting and drawing full time. Initially the small village of Cambieure, Aude took me in and then I bought a small house in nearby Limoux. I was luckily enough to meet my wife Natalie in 2002 and her daughter Effie. We all now live together with our youngest Jessamy in the South-West corner of London. For many years I worked towards solo exhibitions and completed commissions. Since then I've been looking after the children and have adapted my work schedule to include more group exhibitions and illustration work. Since 2010 my interests revolve around exhibiting in public spaces using magnets, documenting recording sessions and gigs for musicians, making animations and album cover images for Jazz Cats but always with a dedication to drawing from Life. Getting outside and being involved in the moment is what keeps me going. Alban (2011) |
